Jessica the World Famous  Hippo

In March 2000 Tony & Shirley Joubert found an orphaned baby hippo starving and exhausted on the edge of the Blyde River. The couple took it home and nursed it. They were allowed to keep it and it grew up in their home among pets and humans. Today the tame hippo, named Jessica, is one of the main tourist attraction in the Hoedspruit area and both children and adults travel far to meet her. Jessica is very affectionate and likes to be near people.
